Artist Robert Perez™ utilized photography early on in his development as an artist. Running a genetics lab at Columbia University for over 11 years, it was there that he was introduced to analog photography and development in the darkroom before digital means were readily available. He was an early adopter of digital photography and early versions of Adobe Photoshop. He worked with a Pentax SLR and Ilford black and white 35mm film before he bought his first digital camera from a Sony employee when the market was still unaware.
His early works were reproductions in charcoal on paper and wood of his black and white photographs that were manipulated repeatedly after the darkroom through such items as scanners and photocopiers, re-shooting prints and later manipulation in software. Photography eventually matured into it's own medium in his oeuvre.
